Vertical gold relief stems descend across the full width of the canvas — unhurried, evenly distributed, each carrying sculpted leaf forms and small violet floral accents at intervals. The ground shifts from blush pink at the upper register to soft lavender below, a gradient worked directly into the surface rather than applied as a wash.
This pink and gold textured botanical painting is horizontal in format and rhythmic in structure — suited to wide walls, corridors, or spaces above furniture where vertical compositions lose proportion. The repetition of the stem motif creates visual continuity without uniformity; no two stems are identical in their detail. Calm, considered, and precise in its material execution.
The wide format was the starting condition, not a consequence. A horizontal canvas of this proportion asks for a compositional logic that differs from square or vertical work — a single focal point becomes inadequate; the eye must be given something to move along rather than into. The repeating stem structure was the answer: not identical, but consistent enough to read as a system.
The gradient ground was established before the relief was applied. Pink and lavender were chosen not for their individual qualities but for the transition between them — the point at which one yields to the other is different in every light condition, sometimes visible, sometimes not. The gold relief sits across this field without interrupting it; the stems are transparent to the ground in a way that denser marks would not be.
The violet floral accents were placed last, and sparingly. They introduce a third colour within a palette that could have remained at two — a decision made to give the eye something to search for rather than something immediately resolved.
