Radiant Skyline
Blue and gold sculptural skyline relief — two-panel set, vertical format, bold architectural interior statement.
NZ$140.00
Two vertical canvases share a continuous composition — a band of gold relief rises from a cobalt blue lower field across both panels, its upper edge jagged and vertical like an urban or geological horizon. Above, the ground shifts to a quiet warm grey; below, the blue holds its intensity. The gold relief is dense and directional, its texture catching light across the full width of the pair.
This blue and gold textured abstract diptych is designed to be read as a single work across two surfaces. Installed with a narrow gap, the horizon reads without interruption. The format suits wide walls and double-height spaces where a single canvas would be insufficient. Each panel is resolved independently; together, they form a work of considerably greater presence.
The diptych format was chosen because the composition required width that a single canvas could not provide without changing its proportions. The horizon line — the point at which gold relief meets open ground — needed to extend across a span that would read as genuinely panoramic. Two panels of the same height, installed in sequence, provide that without compromise.
The decision to allow the gold to drip and fragment into the blue below the main relief band was made in response to the material. Gold applied vertically at this density moves under gravity before it sets; rather than correcting this, the process was allowed to complete itself. The fragments below the main band are not incidental — they are the record of how the work was made.
Grey above, blue below, gold between. Three horizontal registers, each with a distinct material character. The grey is matte and atmospheric; the blue is saturated and flat; the gold is textured and reflective. The work holds all three in tension across its full width, the gold horizon the element that makes the other two legible to each other.
